Mid Century Italian Melior Ceramiche Red Triangular Wall Plaque with Sgraffito Face of a Young Girl, signed on reverse
Striking 1950's rounded triangular ceramic wall plaque, glazed glossy bright red on black, featuring the face of a pretty young girl with a ponytail.
Manufactured by Ceramiche Melior, situated in Sesto Fiorentino on the outskirts of Florence in the 1950s, the plaque is clearly signed to the reverse, and wired for hanging.
The detailed design outlines the figure's face in white on black using the sgraffito technique, and her eyes, outfit and flowers have been handpainted in pastel shades. The reverse is matt black.
The stoneware pottery plaque measures approximately 9" x 9", and is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. There is a little fine surface wear visible under bright light, commensurate with the age of the piece.
Looks wonderful alone, or as part of a collection of Italian ceramics.
