A selection of stunning Hostess Tableware dinner service pieces in the striking 1960s modernist Black Velvet pattern, by British ceramics design icon John Russell.

Each piece features a transfer-printed bold geometric border design in black and brown on glossy white fine bone china. The lines are sleek, minimal and stylish.

Hostess was a brand of British Anchor Potteries Ltd during the 1960s. Russell was a prolific designer in mid-century Britain. His company, John Russell Design, sold his illustrative work to several potteries and lithographic companies, and he is notable for his many and varied designs for Midwinter Pottery, amongst others.

All pieces in excellent vintage condition - no chips, cracks or repairs. As these pieces are over 50 years old, there may be light cutlery marks or tiny areas of wear to the pattern in places, but nothing that would detract from its beauty or function. All pieces have a Hostess Tableware Black Velvet backstamp. As with all vintage transferware, I recommend handwashing in mild detergent.
