Wood's Ware Beryl Jasmine Iris Green Yellow & Blue Utility China Tea and Dinner Service Pieces
$5.49
Iconic Wood’s Ware Beryl, Jasmine & Iris pieces
A selection of Wood’s mint green, pale lemon and china blue pastel utility ware from their Beryl, Jasmine and Iris ranges, manufactured in the years of austerity after World War II, when pigments were in short supply, and lavish decoration and coloured patterns were prohibited for being unnecessarily frivolous and therefore unpatriotic!
Each piece features the distinctive art deco shape and restrained three-ring incised band of decoration so iconic in the Post-War years, and brings back warm memories of British church and village halls, afternoon teas, school fetes and Grandma's kitchen. These colours tone so beautifully and look fabulous displayed together, they will brighten any kitchen. You can also mix and match with any other utility ware range.
Teapots come in 4 sizes, which I call tiny, small, medium and large, see photo 1. The large holds 2 (UK) pints of tea. Teacups are 7cm (2.75") tall, and 8.75cm (3.375") in diameter at the rim. The volume is approx 160ml (just over a quarter of a UK pint) for an almost-full cup.
These are British volume measures, so I apologise if you are overseas! If you are in the States, a 160ml teacup is just under three quarters of a U.S. cup, or just over a third of a U.S. pint.
