Gorgeous vintage Enid Collins wooden box bag, made in Texas in the 1960s. A highly collectable little piece of fashion, American folk art and social history, and very hard to find in the UK. I purchased it from its original owner in Oklahoma in 2017.

The handpainted design on one side features seven gaily coloured little birds sitting on a branch, and is captioned "for the birds...". The interior features a circular mirror inside the lid, with the slogan "the Original Box Bag by Collins of Texas... hand-decorated for You!" with the Collins of Texas horse logo.

The bag has a black plastic handle, brown leather strap fastenings, and brass hinges, catch and feet, all in excellent working order.

It is small enough to be held as a clutch bag, but also a good size day or evening purse/handbag, with plenty of width to safely hold wallet, phone, keys, make-up etc.

In very good used vintage condition, with some wear to corners and edges. The handpainted design is still bright and beautiful as new. The interior mirror is now slightly hazy, but perfectly useable.
