1960s 'Volcano' Vase made by Bob Dawe for Red Barn Pottery in Sudbury, Suffolk, England.

Gorgeous little 4"/10cm tall hand-built stoneware vase glazed in green and brown at the top, unglazed on its lower half, and decorated with three abstract impressed wheels with red glazed centres. Fully glazed interior in turquoise. Distinctive Red Barn Pottery house-shaped impressed mark to side of vase. Diameter is approximately 2.4"/6cm.

Photographs show vase from every angle. Please note the daffodils in the photo are miniature ones - this is a small vase. It is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing.

A quotation from Bob Dawe in 2011 about his style of pottery in the 60s:
"It was probably because several of us went to Goldsmiths College, where building pottery was far more of an interest to us than throwing. Secondly, under the influence of two splendid tutors: David Garbett and Gordon Baldwin, there was a very strong emphasis on textual decoration that related to the pot and enhanced its form. We enjoyed hand-building because it was a much more direct way of using clay than throwing, where you have a "machine" ie the wheel, between you and the clay."
