Chodziez Karolina Deep Red Coffee Set - Vintage Mid-Century Polish Modernist Sgraffitto Design

Stylish early 60s coffee set in burgundy/rust red with white linear sgraffito decoration in the 'Karolina' pattern, manufactured by Chodziez, Poland. A fantastic example of mid-century modernist Polski New Look design and so rare! Each piece has been glazed and the pattern lovingly etched by hand - no two pieces are the same.

The coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl are a quirky irregular egg-shaped ovoid, and have plain white interiors, with the coffee and sugar lids a solid red. Coffee cups are patterned, saucers are plain red.

An elegant and very attractive set in excellent condition with no damage. Small amount of wear to the wells of the saucers, not visible when cups are in place. 'Chodziez Made in Poland' backstamp to all pieces with various hand painted decorators' marks.

This design of coffee set in the alternative green colourway, is featured in the V&A collection in London.
