Kathie Winkle Jamboree Pattern Small Plate and Tea Saucer for Broadhurst Pottery - bold mid-century abstract geometric in yellow and aqua.
17cm circular small plate (SOLD OUT) and 14cm tea saucer (IN STOCK), transfer printed by a semi-automated rubber stamping process with a black outline design, and then handpainted yellow and aqua accents were added. These designs had a 'homespun' appearance, and often varied from plate to plate with placement of motifs and positioning of the coloured accents. The Jamboree pattern was launched c1960*
Kathie Winkle was a prolific ceramics designer who worked for Broadhurst from 1950 until she retired in 1992. Her designs are synonymous with 1960s and 70s British home life, are much loved throughout the world and are currently enjoying a renaissance in popularity.
The plate would be perfect as a side plate, bread & butter plate, or snack dish. The saucer looks great paired with a patterned or plain contemporary cup - see examples in photos. Many people also use Kathie Winkle plates and saucers as part of their mid-century decor - creating plate walls or displays.
Vintage item made in Staffordshire, England. The plate bears the Broadhurst Kathie Winkle backstamp. The side plate has some fine clean crazing throughout, the saucer is perfect.
